1000 years before there was powerful king called Gayasur. He used to worship Lord Vishnu. Due to hi spiritual worshipping Lord Vishnu was pleased and blessed him and told that you are the only person in this world who's having lot of "punya". Due to this if any person touches his body will get benefit of punya. By thise everyone shall get place in heaven after death. The Lord Yama approached to Vishnu and started to complaint about Gayasur.

Vishnu informed Gayasur to lie down and allow God to carry out Yagna on his body. When he led out his feet was in PIthapur in Kukueshwar temple. Hence this place is called Pad Gaya. He also belsses by Lord Vishnu those who carry out cerimonies of their forefather their soul goes to heaven.
